Pediatric Osteopathy is a specialization within osteopathy

And rightly so, because children are not small adults. In their first year alone, they undergo a developmental spurt on a motor, neurological, cognitive, sensory, and emotional level that is unparalleled and presents unique challenges.

In a study of 1,250 infants, Dr. Viola Fryman and colleagues found that 80% of them did not have optimal mobility of the skull bones.

These physical tensions, which can arise from the intrauterine position, the birth process, a cesarean section, etc., disrupt the physiological development process. Many infants can resolve these tensions on their own. Some require support, as this condition can lead to intense sucking, prolonged crying, excessive spitting, breathing difficulties, and developmental delays.

How does pediatric osteopathic treatment work?

Osteopathic treatment of infants and children is gentle and sensitive, with the goal of resolving myofascial and/or biomechanical dysfunctions. Treatment modalities such as stillpoint techniques and techniques from craniosacral therapy are used in the treatment of babies and toddlers.

Knowledge of the physiological developmental stages of infant and child development is essential for adequately treating their disorders. The initial treatment session lasts 50 minutes, and follow-up sessions last 25-30 minutes. Both parents should be present at the initial session, if possible.

Will my health insurance cover the costs of my child's osteopathic treatment?

Private health insurance companies and supplementary insurance providers recognize osteopathy based on the fee schedule for alternative practitioners (GebüH). The amount of reimbursement depends on your insurance contract.

Many statutory health insurance companies reimburse a subsidy for osteopathic treatment. Please see the following link: https://www.osteopathie.de/service-krankenkassenliste
